They are a lovely race, friendly and helpful people, and they all do their best to assist you, and make you feel welcome.
Most speak English, German, and French to a greater or lesser degree, but ALL will try to understand and help in any way possible.
The houses are small and colourful, and the main diet is fish, FRESH FISH caught that day, and it is superb.
There is a bakery which bakes all day long, and the bread and cakes are a delight. Small supermarkets are on every corner, and the gift shops are a mixture of African art and wooden carvings all so wonderful to view and sample.
Beach venders ( ladies) sell fresh fruit and vegetables, and the choice of restaurants within 5 mins walk is mind boggling.
Anything from full English breakfast, to steak and chips, to lobster, to tuna carpachio are available, along with a multitude of local dishes.
The Island is vibrant, and colourful, it is peaceful and relaxing, it has waves that will knock your socks off in some areas, and it has the gentle lapping of the tide where the small and friendly Porto Antigo complex sits.
Santa Maria, Sal Island
The area is best known for its beaches, long, deep and golden and the gentle waves kissing the shoreline.
It is the biggest and best tourist area in Cape Verde, but it has kept its charm, and the African influence.
There are no " kiss me quick " hats or beaches full of sun loungers and sun shades and best of all there are no lager lounges.
Sat right on the beach at Santa Maria.
